Showing as part of the BBC’s Why Democracy? season. An examination of life inside the Russian village of Durakovo ‘the village of fools’ situated 100km southwest of Moscow. Owned and designed by Russian patriot and businessman Mikhail Morozov. To live there residents abandon their rights and they pledge to obey Morozov’s rules, in a place where democracy is a dirty word.

Mikhail Morozov is dismissive of Western democracy. He runs a successful business training ‘true Russians’, a process that involves instilling his pupils with respect for the Russian Orthodox Church, the Russian state and the ‘vertical of power’. “What we have here is a society that respects the vertical of power, this is what our country needs most of all, “ says Morozov quoting his idol President Putin.
